I put away the paperwork this afternoon to take a quick stroll to the lake. I wasn't sure if I'd need those snowshoes or not . . . turns out I didn't. The snow is still close to knee deep in spots, but if I stuck to my snowshoe trail, I was able to stay on top the snow.
There were a lot more bare spots, especially on the point. I saw places where it looked like the deer had lain down, and the beavers have definitely been busy, busy, busy!
I had to keep a close eye on Cookie,
That girl loves to get wet (yes, even on a coooold day like today) and there was plenty of open water out there.
The eagle was sitting high on her nest, just barely looking over the side. I can't imagine how chilly she is up there with the wind gusting like it was. And imagine how the nest must be swaying!
Cookie and I also ran into some geese! They weren't afraid of us at all . . . Cookie was a very good girl, sitting still on my feet for at least fifteen minutes while the geese called back and forth just yards from where we stood.
I'm very surprised she didn't take off after them - she's not very trained on "stay".
And look, one more fabulous find on our walk
Our wood ducks are back!!
Now if the loons and herons would get here, it'll feel like our little piece of the world is complete again.
